“You have heard all this, you as a human being, have been through a great deal of anxieties, suffering insecurity and confusion. Why don’t you change? What prevents you? If each one of us asked that question, not verbally or merely intellectually as entertainment, but asked that question most seriously and deeply, what’s your answer? What’s your answer to this problem that human beings have lived this way for millennia upon millennia – why haven’t they changed?
Why haven’t you who are listening now, why haven’t you changed? You know if you don’t change – what the consequences are. You will be national, nationalistic, you will be tribal, insular, isolated and therefore having no relationship globally, fighting, fighting, fighting, building up more and more armaments to destroy each other. Now, why don’t you, if you are at all serious in this matter, why don’t you ask yourself that question? Why am I, a human being, who have been through all this, why haven’t I changed? What would be your answer?”

The Immeasurable is dedicated to exploring the essential questions of our existence: who we are and where we are going. The intent is to inspire readers to question assumptions of the mind, offering opportunities to ask deep questions into common life themes which are superficially accepted.
We encourage an investigation into the fabric of reality and our physical and cultural conditioning. In this exploration, we might find a new understanding of time and its relation to our thinking processes. A perception of the interconnectedness within the totality of life might arise in us as our perception expands through these explorations.

“Surely, to find out what is true your mind must be free to inquire, which means that it cannot merely accept or believe. I can give you a description of the truth, but it will not be the same thing as your experiencing the truth for yourself.”

The western world always looked outside to find reality including the supreme to be investigated by our sense organs
The eastern reality is reality is within and the focus is to inside
Dividing the world, does not help much..and comparison is even worse..
To me it sounds like: The one is more false then the other..
And although I might fall into this trap, the reality seems to have only one ‘good’, not like a little good or a better good.
It appears to me that Sudhir has only the intention to give a hint that the the Only Good can only be found inside before it can be perceived outside.
Change is fought with difficulty. Remain the same security is felt, change brings many unknowns. I stay put. A few amongst us as, dig out for answers. They find the sub and unconsciousness is totally filled with stinking garbage, frequently erupts, sometimes with explosion and destroys all. Because the buckets are not cleaned totally, garbage fills and overfills; we don’t know or figure out how to get MT. Only a Yogi, Spiritual Teacher, Mystic can guide to that space, devoid of the mind stuff that pulls heavier than earth’s gravity to grief.
If we are truly honest with our self, and harmless to all the answers and wisdom will manifest within.
Hmm, maybe, A strong sense of attachement to ego, a lack of trust in the unknown. A very powerful conditioning and belief in myth and storytelling.
True that!
I think we are changing. The whole creation is changing. I m a part of the creation. So i too.
Humans are under the control of exo-planetary forces and have been since our inception and consequent deception.
This is an innuendo! There is no clarity as to change from what to what. How to decide that a change is called for and it is me that is to change. What I consider a change need not be one in other’s POV.
And for an example, JK has taken the arcenal building activity of a nation, so by implication the government, in particular the politician ruling or in the opposition. I am not that political human 😁
As I said it is just an innuendo. This sort of paternal insinuations always work, whenever the roles of ppl in the discussion is defined. Jk is a “guru” and the listeners or even readers like us, are allegedly the victims of the fault.
If I know I am not at fault, this innuendo wouldn’t applybto me.
Human Consciousness, the Psyche or the I is also a process in nature. There may be a possibility of a discrepancy, a damage or an aberration in its structure and consequently its operation. I have done some work in this regard and if you are interested, my findings are at my twitter page twitter.com/gmybird There is no need to accept, mere understanding may be enough.
Change happens when there is a perception, a realization. Mankind suffers but hardly does he enquire why. In our suffering we are inclined to seek for escapes, to blame or just surrender. But few be, so few be that enquire sincerely and passively the roots of the matter.
We are not under there control, we have the choice to change from the matrix, I did and many others, and many people are waking up and discovering there is more to life than money, material things.
Don’t let nobody tell you you don’t have the power to change, because you do..
One cannot change until one realizes the problem that prevents the change to occur.
By “attending” to the problem, the solution is revealed….then CHANGE IS! 👨✈️
Did it happen to you? (i am speaking to the brain/body.)
We don’t change because we don’t see any immediate danger to ourself. We suffer but we suppress it , get over it over a period of time.It may be because we don’t have the energy, we are dull, stupid ,insensitive .
Yes.
Because they still haven’t seen the danger with all their being. i created Jacob’s Ladder to help people set their brain/body Totally Free of fear, anxiety, sorrow, suffering, confusion, alienation, addiction, envy, greed, jealousy, pride, anger, hatred, violence, bias, and prejudice, in daily life, once and for all, now and forever. “Total Enlightenment NOW!” https://www.facebook.com/groups/1551365565178063/
Why don’t we change? We don’t change because 1) We have never asked that question, 2) We don’t know that a change is required, 3) We don’t know that we are conditioned human beings, 4) We don’t know ourselves completely, the mechanism of brain/mind/thought and the consciousness of human beings, 5) we don’t know that the observer is the observed i.e. your consciousness is the consciousness of the world and 6) we don’t know that when we observe , watch thereby learn simultaneously, another dimension of life comes into being which we may call change or transformation in the consciousness of human beings. Then only, we the human beings live as beautiful as this earth.
Our main obstacle to change is that we have been conditioned by science, religion, art, and literature, that existence and happiness is associated only with particles, atoms, and the particles that transmit energies, our bodies are made with particles, our weapons, our homes, books, food, paintings, etc. Some religions, like mine preach that even in after life our particle body will be resurrected and they prohibit the burning of the dead. The moment we realise that we can exist without particles everything will change.
Why indeed don’t we change, until change is imposed on us, that is……?
Our fear of death, and extinction may be one of the factors in our reluctance to change. So insofar as we hang onto the subatomic structures believing them to be matter, we remain stuck in time, space and matter, unable to move beyond the tyranny of the mind, and mass consciousness.
So belief in separation is another impediment to change, and all belief systems generally, have kept us in false ideals for aeons.
We have been like Sleeping Beauty, waiting to be woken up by a handsome prince!
Awakening remains elusive ,until you can achieve mastery in your house, in the sacred temple of your being. And to realise that your body IS the way out. IE : to be in the dream, and yet out of the dream, simultaneously.
Returning to your natural beingness is the clue, but what is that?
Humans are always attempting to change for the better but to no avail! The fundamental problem is the sense of separation that informs human consciousness and renders the masses incapable of operating outside of what one might call a political frame of consciousness. Do what we will, all that comes of a mind grounded in separation is inherently divisive and conflicted. Thus the world as we know it. Until the veil of separation is lifted, the status quo will prevail. The separate mind is incapable of transcendence.
Our constant search for security, security from fear, leads us to diversion, entertainment, obedience to some authority, addictive behavior and ultimately to greater fear. We tend to run away rather than stopping and getting to know that which is driving us further away from ourselves. I can see my fellow humans buckle under the constant fear generated by the media and realize to be a responsible human being is taking a path away from where the Ruling Class pushes us. My responsibility for all that percolates through my mind, usually in reaction to pressure from the outside, can separate me further from the my friends and neighbors but it this path that will ultimately fulfill me and gain me the freedom of connection, caring and security that I have been craving. An enigma bordering on a paradox that, at first, seems counter intuitive but in reality brings us closer to connection.
We seem to have a tremendous reluctance to examine directly ourselves without engaging an explanation of our own or of someone else’s making. We are afraid to discover our own truth, the dynamic truth of our moment to moment relationship with the universe, of which we are as a thread woven in an unending weave. We crave the approval of our group, our social network. We hunger for some security that is always out of reach. In the end our only security is the immediate cessation of fear and longing. Death is ever at our shoulder to sweep us away and to make all explanations and diversions totally meaningless. There is no one nor anything that can prevent that from happening. When we are face to face with that inescapable reality, if we are lucky, we may gather the courage to stop all the chatter and look at ourselves in a completely new way. Without conclusions or explanations.
Beautiful and true. Thanks, Richard.
Humans lead unconscious life and education does not provide the basic qualities needed to lead a harmonious life..
each individual is separate, this country, religion color and language makes that divide further…and we are insensitive to people around us but we mourn and very emphatic to news happening far away..
often people don t express themselves even they do its not true …peoples needs and desires are reason for this conflict…
most of the humans dont have clarity that is root cause for their suffering…
there are 700 crore worlds in this earth..
Change for what? I don’t care about it. I just always to understand more deeply and more carefully into myself through what is of all day long, but unfortunately I feel so difficult to find people who can be invited together to understand of each other the meaning of life as what is. Most of people live in uncertainty, more projudiced mind, more conclusions, and they live in a hurry up, so they are not realize within their behavior even more mechanical like as the robot, as if the world will coming soon to an end tommorow. Too much crucial… 😄
There must be reasons for change.
Change implies going, moving, from one state to another state, linguistically, and asking ourselves why we don’t change must mean asking “who am I?” What is the root of me, the me? The I as attention flute here, there, back, desire, thought, emotion…the I as awareness is aware of all this and, aware of the gaps in between these phenomena too.
Every night we change, I change, from waking to dreams, where the I is still present, to the deep sleep, where there appears to be no I. Then I reappears in the morning, refreshed or not, after this so called sleep. We know three states, but not whether there is something beyond that. And, who is wanting to change? Who is asking and presuming that there is a beyond. We feel instinctively that there is, but the mind then says, How…?” That how again brings up the attention, the egoic thought self.
Don
Why Change? What is there to change? The trap for me is to think there is something to change to. The ideal. Actually one reaches a state where any movement of the mind is the same state. This understanding the desire to know, to make the unknown known.en one realizes what is this state. and one can really only say one doesn’t know. The struggle is attempting to bring the unknown into the known.. The traps are so subtle. One keeps returning to what choiceless awareness is. One senses there is nothing to change to.By being aware of what isn’t truth the other is. Truth has its own action. And maybe it is a wrong approach to ask what does one change to. It is like pursuing something that you can’t grasp or wanting to have a relationship with something unknown. one doesn’t know where this will go.
I beggined to read JK when I was twenty-three,now I am seventy-one and during this time HE got a revolution in my mind. Now when I look behind I see how foll I was. Many thanks for the krishnamurti`s memories.
“Why haven’t you changed?”..
Dear ‘K’,
If this change was a choice for me, I had already done it.. a long time ago.
By recognizing myself in the talks given by you, the fire lit up spontaneously, and it wouldn’t let me go..
Minutes, hours and weeks I have spent, just to clear my misconceptions learned in the past, and there are still so many to go!
But as ‘responsibility’ isn’t a ‘thing to be given’, it is neither a ‘thing directed to others’, so I go on in myself.
And after many years of struggle, here I am..
Asking myself as you did; Why haven’t I changed?
It appears to me, as it isn’t a choice to make.
This change in me, cannot be caused by reason, I wouldn’t know, were to go..
So, what is left in me, is my attention..
And I hope, its not to late?
Because the brain/body has not yet seen with all of its being the danger of the I, the me, the self, the so-called True or Higher Self.
The brain/body feels it would be unsafe and/or uncomfortable to lay down their “spear and shield” (the I, the me, the self, the so-called True or Higher Self) as long as others have theirs.
We are caught in innumerable divisions because of which each one of us feel to be separate from the rest. So, if there is a tragedy, agony at some place I may not feel the pain within me. Same way, when I am enjoying a moment I do not bother to share it with others, either familiar or unfamiliar to me. So, I may become serious only when I myself happen to face the tragedy, agony. It is said that the sorrow has a transforming effect. But one may not invite sorrow willfully and also one may not know when it is going to arrive in one’s life. So, as an alternative, which is also the better approach, is to develop sensitivity to everything in and around us through observation and be passionate to learn.
