What Is Going to Happen in the Future?

“What is going to happen in the future? Man has turned his mind towards perfecting more and more technology – computers, better instruments of war, better communication, better means of killing another human being, and so on. His consciousness has moved towards greater technology – right? He’s given his energy in that direction. Our brains are becoming more and more technologically minded, gadgets. We’re not saying you shouldn’t have that, we’re saying that it’s inevitable, that’s what’s happening.
And man has given very little time, energy, thought, in any other direction. He doesn’t say: I am going to find out for myself what I am, why I behave like this, what is beyond all this? We have not given that equal energy or time or vitality to enquire within ourselves, what we are. Is there anything ultimate, beyond all sorrow? Is there any existence without cause? The enquiry of something far greater than all technology, all human thought. You see the picture?
Not in opposition, not as a reaction to that, but man cannot live on technology alone, and its products. One has to go into something that is immeasurable. Please see the actuality of all this.
Suppose you give your time, energy, your capacities, to real enquiry, not accepting belief and all that childish stuff, but deeply enquiring. Enquiry is different from analysis. Enquiry is to observe and pursue that observation. So when one human being does this, you may add to the whole human consciousness a certain quality to it. And if there are a thousand people who are concerned with this, not forming a group and all that kind of silly stuff, but actually giving your whole life to this, then you are adding to the human consciousness a quality of something beyond all words, beyond all thought, beyond all conclusions, something eternal.”

Pl send me your articles. I am interested in becoming a part of your enquiry.
Maybe that same wish that, ‘if there are a thousand people who care about this, not forming a group and all that kind of silly things, but really give their whole life to this, then they are adding to the human consciousness a quality of Something beyond all words, beyond all thought, beyond all conclusions, something eternal’, is an impediment, a conditioning.
For everything we do, to be true, must be ours. That is, only one has to come to the truth, by itself. So, not be conditioned, be free.
“if there are a thousand people who care about this, not forming a group and all that kind of silly things, but really give their whole life to this, then they are adding to the human consciousness a quality of Something beyond all words, beyond all thought, beyond all conclusions, something eternal,” you quote, means the same, as it began with, “you give your time, energy, your capacities, to real enquiry, not accepting belief and all that childish stuff, but deeply enquiring. Enquiry is different from analysis. Enquiry is to observe and pursue that observation.
This means to me that #1) I am to clear out my mind so that there is a space for a different view point can get into my mind, #2) and watch very closely. If I ask how does this mind look? Then the answer exactly the same as the baby picture this topic started with (and give my whole life to what I find, something very, totally new). Then how can there not be any change?
The problem is that our mind is like an overflowing tea cup left outside and frozen … nothing can get into this cup.
So, I must let my mind flexible, first, and enquire for the truth with all the why-questions this mind can find … and pursue to the end.
It could slow myself down some bit but not impediment because the result of me going thoroughly with this experiment will be enlightenment or understanding how my mind works and thus understanding how surrounding matters are….
Thank you for your comment. It helped me to dust my own thoughts.
Search not for truth, but for the reason for the lie. To find the “truth”(in my opinion this doesn’t exist necessarily, everything is theory) , but to find this truth would provide what victory? You’d be at square one… if you discover the reason for the lie, the truth will reveal itself.
We are as humans on our way to Cosmic Consciousness , even it does not look like that !
we are almost there , I can Feel it already , and You ( me ) can Feel it too !
Thank You
Peter
Who are , where are we and where are we going?…asking a tremendous question…perhaps you dont ask such questions
From my perspective these questions; who are we, where are we and where are we going need not be answered as there is no need to ask them. Why? Because the past is gone and cannot be altered, the future is pure speculation based on possible expectations. The only truth is this moment and the next.
Hi Geoffrey, you are right, for sure, that the past is gone and cannot be altered, but it cannot be errased, either. It’s there, with all the emotions, regrets, blames, and so on, trapped in …. What we have to come to is undrstanding, understanding humanity.
How humans are different from all other animals. When we see other animals, such as a deer in the nature, don’t we feel the encounter as if we bumped into a nymp … a fairyland creature? It is perhaps the other way around – we are God-lke creatures – a combination of divinity ane humanity….
Where have we made the wrong turn? It is where our misunderstanding of the way of nature occured, the nature of all things includibg ourselves and what we do … I am very sure.
And this misunderstanding persists forever, through today, in every moment we make a decision.
Decisions over anything … especially when there are children or the Poor is in the picture….
To get out of this terrible cycle, and come to an understanding of humanity, we must understand ourselves. By using our primary tools–senses–and then we are finally invited to one of the “secondary” tools–spirituality.
The first and foremost question is, perhaps, the third question, “Where am I coming from?” The question that appears to me, the same as, “Why am I the way I am?” Then the other three questions dissolve, once I get to the answer.
Is this an incredibly important message, perhaps, given the rapid acceleration of technology today? And is it an alternative to the future as described by Harari in his best selling and disturbing books: “Sapiens” and “Homo Deus”?
Good. Very good message.
What great stuff. The certainty & finality in K’s voice itself is striking. That itself tells something. What makes man inquire in this manner. Everybody is going after very mundane thing-a good carrier , money , fame , possessions etc. Here K says of something beyond all that, all thought. Perhaps the success in technological advancement is hypnotizing man in some way? K once said young are caught up in sophistication & are then lost to the whole beauty of life. That’s the point I suppose. Now we look for happiness in man made things-cars , buildings etc, etc. We don’t feel the wind , see the nature & say that is enough for life. We cannot say that , because we cannot feel all that……we are burden with a thought made value system & got blinded we are wholly unaware of something natural……..what a message by K. The greatness in it!!!
I like the thought of getting out of our big brains & into our whole being….thanks for the inspiration.
I have been an active listener of J.K. for many years. He keeps me connected to my true being, as I stray often. Great video and hope to see many more! Very exciting that people are still realizing the value in his teachings and pushing them into the future. Much love from me to you.
Great and wise words of a great master who teaches us to be humble, self-reflective and
mindful.
The fact that he gave this talk in 1982 is mind blowing. It may as well have been today. I wonder if he could have envisioned the mess we would have ourselves in now with technology.
There is nothing good or bad in technology. It is we make it by our usage. Mobile phone can be used for communication as well to trigger a bomb. It is upto human being to use technology for good. But where our education system going?
Clearly technology can be a good thing and by itself is ethically neutral. But I think we have gotten into even deeper trouble due to how we have applied it. Also, it appears that technology has become our new religion. Religions have always promised to save us if only we would believe in them. Education and democracy, likewise, were thought to be the missing elements that could save us .Have we now made technology into a religion in an expectation it will save us, set things right? The real problem with belief like this is that the simple fact of believing never changes us deeply from
the inside, thus leaving the same distortions of perception, the same self serving insanity, in charge. How can such distortion and insanity ever utilize technology to bring sanity and security to mankind?
If there are physical needs, technology for betterment is necessary for catering the needs. But psychologucally it is detrimental because psychologucal needs are psychic and illusion.
there will be no future if we don’t take care of our world, we are already killing the future by littering our oceans, global warming, etc.
