Here, Krishnamurti examines how we can learn to understand ourselves and our place in society. Is the divide between these two concepts something real, or something that is non-existent?
You Are the World
“This division between the individual and society does not really exist at all. When one tries to carve out a life of one’s own, the individual is not different from the community in which he lives. For the individual, the human being, has constructed the community, society. I think we ought to be very clear from the beginning that this division is artificial, utterly unreal.
In bringing about a radical change in the human being, in you, you are naturally bringing about a radical change in the structure and the nature of society. I think it must be very clearly understood, that the human mind, with all its complexity, its intricate work, is part of this external world.”
From Talks with American Students, by Krishnamurti.

Most beautiful and edited video so far. Jiddu is great as always.
This is of course a fundamental aspect of K.’s teaching, yet we feel that even if we can agree intellectually that there is no separation we still remain convinced that we are separate. All the explanations K. gave failed to change this conviction of ours. Unless there is the “seeing of this reality we don’t change. And we will never see it until we are convinced to be separate. So it’s like a dog who is trying to catch its tail: it will never get it…
I tried for years. Still don’t understand that the observer is the observed.
Para percibir que “soy el mundo” necesito ver “lo que es” sin la distorsión del conflicto conmigo mismo, con las cosas y y con los otros.
To feel that I am the world I need to see what it is, without the distortion of conflict with myself, with others and with things
Beauty.
I agree with Donator that it is easy to say “we are the world,” but to see it deeply and live it is an enormous challenge. Do we really see that we are violent, greedy, ambitious like the rest of the world? That we are totally self-centered, mainly concerned with our own wants, our problems, the image we have of ourselves?
Great stuff as usual. K is saying change yourself & thereby change the structure of society. So a person inquiring deeply in to him/herself will not fit into this structure although he/she has to live in this world. Its great, its a challenge I suppose. So going into yourself would mean constant work?-both with yourself & society at large because you bring in a different order?
such a nice view! i completely agree!
and exactly this fact that all of us individual are effected on the world but before we understand this fact we should totally know about ourself , we should know how we can love ourself ! If i understand to respect to my self and love to whatever i am, then i can learn to love people, love nature! respect them and try to improve my life situation beside them! try to make life more peaceful and perfect! thanks for sharing this video here!
To change world´s vision, see the things are they are. It is the blooming of the human being.
“In bringing about a radical change in the human being, in you, you are naturally bringing about a radical change in the structure and the nature of society.” Krishnamurti
Not true. Countless human beings have questioned, defied, and proved that “the structure and the nature” of the society they found themselves in is based on falsehoods and foolishness, and most of them lived and died without having any effect on their society. It’s not enough to see and expose what is false and erroneous; one must effectively communicate it.
Seeing is the doing, THE REVELATION
Could You send me all this in Spanish ,please
I have read books by him and Sri.Ramana Maharshi. JK says change yourself. Yes I may try change myself and that is not change going the society . JK , Maharshi and so many great people have lived in this world but the structure of society remains same with all its selfishness greed etc.It seems every individual’s life is governed to a large extent by his DNA and the environment in which he is born and lives subsequently. It is not that easy to see one’s conditioning without judgement because of the very conditioning in which he exists.
Our spiritual traditions say be a witness to everything that is happening. I think it is chemical process taking place in our brain creates all three states of consciousness like waking, dreaming and deep sleep. Sometimes I feel is there any reality beyond what is perceived by the senses. Because someone has said it is there are we going after it? Are we caught in words and language?
